Holm Akhdar for Environmental Studies and Consultancy (HAESC) presented the findings and recommendations of its field study on climate-induced displacement in Yemen during an official meeting held in Aden on Monday, September 1, 2025. The session was attended by Eng. Tawfiq Al-Sharjabi, Minister of Water and Environment, Deputy Minister Mr. Mujahid bin Afrar, and H.E. Dr. Thomas Ortel, Ambassador of Switzerland in the Sultanate of Oman and Yemen, along with senior officials from the Ministry.<\/p>\n

In May 2025, Holm Akhdar launched the ICCIDPY<\/a> study, funded by the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) and entitled ‘At the Mercy of the Climate: The Impact of Climate Change on IDPs in Yemen<\/a>\u201d. The study focuses on the link between climate change and internal displacement in the governorates of Marib, Al-Maharah, Socotra, and Hajjah.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Presenting the study results, Holm Akhdar\u2019s CEO, Mohammed Al-Hakimi, noted that climate change is a direct driver of displacement in Yemen, accounting for 13.9% of internal displacement movements. The study found that climate displacement is most concentrated in Al-Maharah and Socotra, followed by Hajjah and Marib.<\/p>\n

The research revealed how climate shocks are compounding the vulnerabilities of displaced populations and host communities, especially regarding food security, water, livelihoods, and social stability. It also provided actionable recommendations for the government, local authorities, donors, and UN agencies to help communities adapt and reduce future risks.<\/p>\n

This study represents one of the earliest comprehensive assessments of climate-induced displacement in Yemen. By documenting both the immediate and long-term impacts of climate change on displaced communities, it provides a vital evidence base to inform policy and humanitarian response, and to strengthen resilience against future climate risks.<\/p>\n
